Now, for my farewell note to the people who run blogger.
Dear Blogger team,
I tried to stay faithful to you guys. I'm a big fan of your parent company - Google and I generally use their stuff for search, mail and staying in touch. Unfortunately, your services leave much to be desired. Don't you see that all bloggers will eventually need to categorize their posts? And I need to have trackback functionality. Your service is too amateurish. Hope your guys improve. I just might want to come back.
Cheers,
Sagar
P.S. Btw, Orkut also sucks. Here are a few suggestions for the orkut people:
1) Fix all those bugs! I'm sick of seeing those doughnutty messages!
2) Some people would want their profiles to be searchable on the net! Actually, while searching on Google for a particular person, you should display the orkut results in a separate section, because when most people search for a non-famous name (less than 1000) links, they probably want to know orkut-type of information.
3) Allow more complicated searches than simply based on name. After all, you guys are google!
Hello World!
Here’s a link to my old blog : http://rastogi29.blogspot.com
After the exam
It was a hard paper. It was not a CAT paper. It was more like a tiger paper! I didn’t do very well. Noone who I know did very well. I suppose that makes things okay. Parents, friends, relatives have all been very sweet in asking how I did. They appear to be more anxious about how I feel right now than about the final outcome. It would suck to let all these people down. I know that some people must be anxious to know my scores. I’ve decided not to compute them for now. Not because I’m depressed or sth but for other reasons. Hope everybody understands.
Exams and me
It’s been a helluva ride. We’ve been together for ages now. I can’t even remember the first time we met. They’ve been very nice to me as I try to be to them. I’ve been late for our meetings once in a while and of late, I’ve been leaving before our time is up, but I hope they understand.
Of course, we’ve had our share of tiffs and misunderstandings but we always make up (sometimes their close relatives, ‘the results’ help, and sometimes they don’t). After all, I can’t do without them, can I?
They’ve been extra-nice to me since the past three and a half years. I guess they wanted to make up for that one big misunderstanding we had) Obviously, it’s all forgiven and forgotten now), or maybe it’s because of the greater numbers of ‘Best of Lucks’ that I get.
I just realized that tomorrow’s date will determine if we continue to see each other, in the near future. I, for one, would like to do so. Hope they do too.
Status messages on my Yahoo list
Mani : ‘ML :)’ (Machine Learning for the non-iiitian :D)
Dharam : ‘What matters is Metaaaaaa wins or not :))’ (long story, will explain later ;))
Keerthi Kiran : ‘In the End {Sems}; it doesn’t even matter’ (how true!)
Rama : ‘looking arnd for an fyp’ (if only you knew the whole story :D)
Ravishankar : ‘Corporate Social Responsibility… why has it become my responsibility :(’ (We have a ‘Industry and Society’ test sometime soon. The worst part is: I have taken that course too!)
Shiben : Ring + Matrix = FEAR! How? play the game! i finished it (Shiben is a true gamer :D)
Kesu : ‘Oh! Sympathy, Where have you gone? I’m getting older, I need something to rely on…’ (I’ve given up trying to understand this guy’s status messages. Ever since, he has become a rock star, he has risen above us mere mortals)
Venkat : ‘Quix at 8:30 :(’ (Some solace in finding that it’s not only the iiitians that have endsems!)
Rao : ” (It’s a pity Rao has stopped putting on his trademark status messages… Dunno what’s the matter with him).
Of naive opinions…
I’m sick of hearing so many naive opinions. People say, “It’s time India showed its anger” or “India funding Pakistani Jihadi groups” so seriously, it makes me want to stare at them (or scroll up and down, hunting for the punch-line) to make sure that they are not cracking a straight-faced joke!
The old days of war are gone. Terrorism is no battle of Panipat, where you just need more bombs and men on the ground to win. You just can’t bomb Pakistan to make the problem go away. First of all, it’s a nuclear power… Actually, I don’t even want to continue.. there are so many reasons against war that if I listed them all, this would be a very boring post. You need to make the root of the problem go away. You need to understand why healthy, intelligent, young men and women would willingly blow themselves and many other innocent people to bits. Why are they doing this? Is it because they have been told that we did something terrible to them or their ancestors? Did we really do something like that? Shouldn’t we clear up the misunderstanding? Shouldn’t we do something to improve our relations with them - like extending a willing hand of friendship when they most need it? This brings me to my second point..
Do you seriously think that the Indian bureaucrats (People who are confident of clearing the IAS exam in the first attempt, raise your hands. ahaan.. Didn’t think so!) and the Indian politicians (How many of you would even think of playing the game that these people are the grandmasters of?) are so stupid that they would just hand Musharaff a cheque for $25 million dollars. Of course not! There are probably a hajaar riders attached. A lot of the amount is probably in kind - like blankets, or something like that - manufactured by an Indian company whose revenues are going to take a nice jump thanks to the earthquake. And probably, some of the amount even consists of discounts - ‘you buy $100 million worth of goods from us, and we give you $10 million worth of goods free’. Even if there is cash, it’s probably under the control of a trust fund and it’s released only when proper documents are submitted that can convince the trustees that the money is for good purposes and not for buying bombs. Of course, I’m just speculating here (I couldn’t find any information on what exactly constitutes this $25m aid on the web. If you do, please give me the link), but I’m pretty sure that what I’m saying is closer to reality than the idea that India is writing a cheque to the same people who bombed us.
Think about it guys. Pakistan is not one single homogeneous entity that is hell-bent on bleeding India. Just like India is not a billion bodies with one soul. Not all Pakistanis want to kill India. They listen to the same music that we listen to and watch the same movies we watch. We are all human. Deep down, none of us want to kill anybody.
I’m sorry if I’ve hurt anybody’s sentiments by this post. Btw, my home-city, Mumbai has been bombed several times in the past. I am furious with the terrorists too and I would just love to get this problem fixed.
